Useful Information for San Mateo CA
San Mateo CA started out in the early 1800’s housing two large rancheros, and evolved into a city that was incorporated during the final days of the civil war era, 1864. Today its’ residents number around 100,000 and it is counted as one of the larger suburbs of the greater Bay area.
During the Mission era, San Mateo was a stagecoach stop housed in the then abandoned remains of the mission. The railroad arrived in 1863, and offered a connection betweet San Mateo, driving the rapid growth
of the city. Many people who lived in were looking for an alternative place to live with a more moderate climate, and San Mateo fit the bill.
As is true of so many other “bedroom” communities serving the greater bay area, home prices have continued to rise and made this city one of the more expensive in the nation to live. The climate remains mild year round, and people looking to escape winter back home feel like they have found their little bit of paradise here. The proliferation of high tech jobs maintains a steady exodus into the area.
